Kanchanpur: The road connecting Bhimdatta Municipality-9 to Khalla Masetti in Kanchanpur has been blocked due to landslides triggered by continuous rain, leading to the temporary closure of Bhimdatta Memorial Basic School in Khalla.

School teacher Suraj Joshi stated that teaching was halted as students were facing difficulties commuting due to landslides at multiple points along the road. “There have been landslides at various places, making commuting very difficult. It is not possible to conduct school teaching until the road is regularly operational,” he said. Joshi added that the geographical structure of remote settlements such as Khalla, Masetti, and Tundikhel resembles hilly terrain, requiring travelers from Mahendranagar district headquarters to cross 13 ravines flowing through the Chure. During the rains, students also face challenges due to river flooding.

Bhimdatta-9 Ward Chairman Gagan Singh Karki confirmed that road and electricity services to Khalla Masetti have been disrupted due to landslides since Sunday. “The landslides have also damaged electricity poles, and the road has not been reopened yet. Movement of people to Khalla Masetti has been stopped due to the blockage,” he said.

Acting Mayor Keshav Singh Bista of Bhimdatta Municipality said that continuous rains have hindered landslide clearance work. “Efforts are being made to restore electricity and road access,” he added.

Khalla, Masetti, and Tundikhel, considered remote areas of Bhimdatta Municipality-9, are home to 470 families and face ongoing challenges in development infrastructure. Locals frequently suffer disruptions to roads and electricity due to floods and landslides during the rainy season.
