Darchula: Communication has been disrupted in Tinkar village of Byas Rural Municipality, Darchula, near the Chinese border, for the past three weeks following a flood on August 11.

Although Nepal Telecom had connected 2G service in the village, telephone service was suspended after lightning struck and damaged the telephone tower. Local resident Believer Tinkar noted that the lack of phone service has caused significant problems. A VSAT phone is also present in the village, but continuous rain has prevented it from functioning properly.

Tinkar village, located in Byas-1, is home to 70 families. Residents had relocated to Kuncha (Basai) from the district headquarters, Khalanga, last Jestha. Ward Secretary Binod Singh Budhathoki said, “Since August 11, communication with the locals has been disrupted as the Nepal Telecom tower has not been operational.” Villagers reportedly have to travel to Khalanga for connectivity.

Krishna Bahadur Gurung, head of Nepal Telecom Darchula, stated that the disruption may be due to a software issue with Tinkar’s tower. “We have informed the central office about the service outage and efforts are underway to resolve the problem,” he said.
