Memorandum submitted to Prime Minister demanding operation of health sciences university in Geta
Dhangadhi: A memorandum has been submitted to the Prime Minister, Education Minister, and Health Minister demanding the immediate operation of the Shaheed Dasharath Chand Health Sciences University in Geta, Kailali.
The Shaheed Dasharath Chand Health Sciences University Struggle Committee, advancing the long-standing efforts of the people of the Far West, handed over the memorandum through Chief District Officer Krishna Prasad Lamsal on Monday.
In the document, locals expressed frustration that the university—approved by the House of Representatives in 2080 BS and certified by the President in 2082 BS—has yet to come into operation. The committee urged the government to implement the act without delay, prepare the university’s structure, appoint officials, provide high-level health services, and initiate academic programs.
“The people of the Far West consider this university to be extremely important for quality health services, medical studies, research, and employment. However, this historic university has not yet come into operation due to the government’s failure to take necessary initiatives,” the memorandum stated.
The committee demanded the immediate launch of MBBS, nursing, and other health science programs, the operation of a 600-bed hospital, and the establishment of laboratories and research centers.
The memorandum was signed by Coordinator Lokeraj Pandey (Ago), Co-Coordinator Anand Prasad Bhatta, and Secretary Dharmasingh Kunwar, while members of the struggle committee and civil society representatives accompanied the delegation to the District Administration Office.
