Heavy rain triggers rising water levels and flash flood risk in Far-west
Dhangadhi: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Weather Forecasting Division, has reported a significant flow of water vapor-rich air from the Arabian Sea, leading to unstable weather conditions across the country.
This afternoon, the division forecasts generally cloudy skies nationwide, with the possibility of moderate rainfall in parts of Koshi, Bagmati, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces, and scattered showers in other hilly and Terai regions. Heavy rainfall is expected in isolated areas of Bagmati and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Meanwhile, the water level at the Jogbudha (Mayapuri) hydrological station in Kanchanpur district crossed the alert mark at 7:20 a.m. today. Authorities have urged residents along riverbanks to remain vigilant as water levels continue to rise.
The Dodhara rainfall station has already recorded heavy rainfall in the past three hours, and further precipitation is expected, raising the likelihood of flash floods in small rivers in the region.
Local residents have also been advised to exercise caution in weak and steep terrain due to heightened landslide risks. The department has warned of significant increases in river flows across Kailali, Kanchanpur, and surrounding districts, urging communities in flood-prone and riverside areas to remain on high alert.
