Deputy Mayor Chaudhary leads market monitoring in Belauri
Kanchanpur: Belauri Municipality Deputy Mayor Jogram Chaudhary on Wednesday led a comprehensive market monitoring operation in the Belauri market area.
The inspection, which began at 1 p.m., involved participation from representatives of the Area Police Office Belauri, Area Administration Office Tribhuvanbasti, Belauri Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Belauri Youth Networking Club, media personnel, and other stakeholders. The team inspected grocery stores, hotels, fancy shops, kiosks, and restaurants.
During the monitoring, authorities seized expired goods, non-food items, banned beverages imported from India, and health-hazardous coloring agents used in hotels. The municipality also instructed unregistered shops and businesses to complete registration within the given timeframe.
Belauri Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Hira Singh Bista said the monitoring was conducted ahead of the Far West’s major festival, Gaura, to prevent food adulteration, curb the sale of banned beverages, and ensure the availability of safe food products. He emphasized close coordination between the municipality and the association and urged traders not to sell non-food items.
Deputy Mayor Chaudhary stated that the operation was carried out in response to reports of non-food items being sold in the market. While black polythene was banned soon after the 2079 election, its use continues, he noted. Expired goods and prohibited beverages were confiscated during the inspection, and he warned that future violations would result in legal action. He added that monitoring would take place at least four times a year.
Belauri Youth Networking Club President Keshav Bohara reported that traders were also warned against selling tobacco, alcohol, and gutkha products to minors. The campaign aims to protect children from harmful substances, encourage sports participation, and foster future athletes, he said, suggesting that monitoring be conducted at least once a month.
The inspection team included Deputy Mayor Chaudhary, Nayab Subba Dipendra Prasad Jaisi from the Area Administration Office Tribhuvanbasti, Chamber President Bista, municipal employees, police officers, media representatives, and Youth Networking Club leaders Keshav Bohara and Secretary Bhupesh Pandey.
The municipality pledged to continue such monitoring efforts and remain proactive in safeguarding consumer rights.
