Court releases Mamta Khadka Kunwar citing pending appeal deadline

Dhangadhi: Mamta Khadka Kunwar of Malika Tole, Godavari Municipality-3, Kailali, has been released by the court citing that the appeal deadline in her case has not yet expired.

Kunwar, who was arrested from her residence on Thursday by a team from the District Police Office, Kailali, was released shortly after being presented before the court. The court stated that she cannot be sent to prison until the appeal deadline has passed.

An order issued by the Tehsildar of the District Court, Kailali, mentioned, “Since the deadline for the appeal of the accused Mamta Khadka Kunwar, who was arrested and presented in this case, is still pending, she cannot be sent to the prison office by issuing a prisoner certificate right now.”

Kunwar had been arrested by Kailali police in connection with a banking crime case. The District Court, Kailali, had issued a verdict sentencing her to a fine of Rs. 40,50,000 and five days of imprisonment. The police labeled her an absconding defendant and made the arrest accordingly.

Following the court's order, the police released Kunwar and sent her home after completing the required formalities.
