Incessant rain submerges Dhangadhi and surrounding areas

Kailali: Continuous rainfall since last night has caused widespread flooding in Dhangadhi Bazaar and surrounding areas, submerging roads, settlements, and shops.

Key affected areas include Bishalnagar, Milanchowk, Shivanagar, Hasanpur, Campus Road, Malika Tole, Krishnanagar, and southern settlements near Purano Bhansar Katan village. Most shops in these areas have also been inundated, with rainwater filling roads and drains, making it difficult for pedestrians to navigate the streets.

Locals blame the annual flooding on unorganized and outdated drainage systems, coupled with the encroachment of old rivers and canals. The rainwater has nowhere to drain, leading to recurrent flooding each monsoon season.

Local leader Shivraj Joshi noted that unmanaged road construction and lack of proper planning have worsened the situation. Ward No. 2 Chairman Dharmaraj Ojha echoed these concerns, stating that the destruction of natural drainage paths has intensified the flood risks.

Despite the widespread waterlogging, the District Police Office, Kailali, confirmed that no human or material losses have been reported.
