Far West celebrates as legal path clears for health sciences university in Geta
Dhangadhi: Celebrations are underway in the Far West Province following the passage of the bill related to the Martyr Dasharath Chand National Health Sciences University, opening the legal pathway for its operation in Geta, Kailali.
Political leaders from various parties gathered at the CPN-UML Province Committee office in Dhangadhi to express collective enthusiasm over the long-awaited development. The bill’s passage by the House of Representatives has sparked a sense of unity and optimism for regional advancement.
In a joint statement, Nepali Congress Far West Province Acting Vice President Lokraj Awasthi, CPN-UML Province President Krishna Prasad Jaisi, Nepal Communist Party Far West Working Committee member Bharat C, and Rastriya Janamorcha Province President Nandaraj Bhatta extended gratitude to the parliamentary committee and the government. They urged swift implementation of the university by allocating the necessary budget and medical college seats.
Speaking at the event, Acting President Awasthi emphasized the need for continued political unity to address any future challenges related to the university’s operation. UML President Jaishi echoed the sentiment, highlighting the prolonged public anticipation and calling for timely action to operationalize the institution.
Despite the completion of physical infrastructure in Geta, Godavari Municipality-5, dissatisfaction had lingered due to delays and legal ambiguities. Disputes surrounding the Health Sciences Academy, Medical College, and university had created confusion for years. The recent passage of the bill has now brought hope and enthusiasm to the region, with locals celebrating by lighting lamps and engaging in traditional Deuda dance.
Currently, a hospital in Geta provides basic medical services including general OPD, orthopedics, surgery, gynecology, ultrasound, X-ray, laboratory, and pharmacy services. The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has already invested over Rs 6 billion in constructing more than 42 buildings for the project. The plan to establish a medical college in Geta was first announced in 2066 BS.
