‘Tractor Debate’ initiative launched in Baitadi to curb rural road accidents

Baitadi: In an effort to reduce rising road accidents in rural areas, the District Police Office in Baitadi has launched a public awareness campaign titled the ‘Tractor Debate’.
The program was conducted in Satbanjh on Friday as part of a province-wide initiative introduced by the Provincial Police Office across all nine districts of Sudurpaschim Province, according to Police Inspector Baldev Badu, spokesperson of the District Police Office, Baitadi.
Inspector Badu explained that tractors are frequently involved in road accidents in rural areas, prompting the specific focus of this campaign. “The ‘Tractor Debate’ aims to minimize accidents by engaging drivers, vehicle owners, and the general public in discussions on safety and legal compliance,” he said.

He added that despite tractors being intended for commercial use and goods transportation, they are often misused for carrying passengers, increasing the risk of accidents. During the debate, participants were informed about the Vehicle Operation Act and the legal responsibilities of tractor use.
Inspector Badu also pointed out that many tractor drivers operate without a valid license. Drivers were warned against unlicensed operation and the illegal transport of excavated river materials, such as sand and gravel. The campaign also emphasized the importance of not overloading tractors and ensuring proper covering of materials during transport.
Additionally, discussions were held with local residents on broader road safety issues, with an appeal to strictly follow traffic rules. Inspector Badu stressed that accidents are more frequent in rural areas, and compliance with traffic regulations is essential to preventing further incidents.
