Access to iodized salt improves for remote Darchula residents

Darchula: Citizens of the remote mountainous district of Darchula in Sudurpaschim Province now have improved access to iodized salt, thanks to the efforts of Nepal Salt Trading Corporation Limited.
Previously dependent on the Indian market for salt, residents now benefit from the establishment of a Salt Trading Corporation depot in Gokuleshwar. To ensure access to iodized salt across all 61 wards of the district’s nine local levels, the corporation has set up sales centers through its Khalanga and Gokuleshwar depots.
Prem Singh Kunwar, in-charge of the Khalanga Depot, shared that sales centers have been established in Duhu Rural Municipality-5, Garmora, and Byas Rural Municipality-4, Sunser, making iodized salt available directly in local villages. Daily distribution from these centers is ongoing.

Laxman Singh Dhami, in-charge of the Gokuleshwar Depot, reported that salt is being sold and distributed from Khandeshwari in Apihimal Rural Municipality-5, Okhal in Ward No. 4, Hoparigad in Naugad Rural Municipality, and Pasti in Malikarjun Rural Municipality. Additionally, locals from Dilashaini Rural Municipality in neighboring Baitadi district are also benefiting from the Gokuleshwar Depot.
According to depot officials, Gokuleshwar Depot distributes 20 to 25 quintals of iodized salt daily, while Khalanga Depot distributes 15 to 20 quintals daily.
