10,343 criminal cases registered in Sudurpaschim in the past three years
Dhanghadhi, 10,343 criminal cases have been registered in Sudurpaschim Province, Nepal, according to data from the Provincial Police Office.
The cases were registered across district police offices in Kailali, Kanchanpur, Dadeldhura, Doti, Baitadi, Darchula, Bajhang, Bajura, and Achham. These figures span from the fiscal year 2078/79 to 2080/81. The crime rate has seen a steady rise, with 3,228 cases registered in 2078/79, 3,503 cases in 2079/80, and 3,603 cases in the latest fiscal year 2080/81. These crimes include murder, rape, theft, polygamy, banking fraud, domestic violence, and other offenses.
Despite the increasing number of cases, a large backlog remains unresolved. Of the cases filed, 2,592 remained unheard by the police during this period, including 322 cases in 2078, 1,066 in 2079, and 1,204 in 2080. Additionally, the data reveals that 7,639 men and 570 women were arrested over these three fiscal years. However, 626 individuals, including 82 women, involved in various crimes such as extortion, drug-related offenses, and murder, are still at large.
