Hulaki road collapse in Kailali: Flooding and blockage due to heavy rain
Dhangadhi- Heavy rainfall has caused significant disruptions in Kailali, leading to the collapse of the Hulaki road section in Old Manikapur, Kailari Village-5.
The water flow from continuous rain caused the road to flood and eventually collapse, resulting in a complete blockage. The road is currently submerged, and seven vehicles have been stranded due to the obstruction. In response, a rescue operation has been initiated.
A team of 11 personnel, led by Deputy Superintendent of Armed Police Gandhiparaj Syangtang from BOP Khonpur, and another team of 7 personnel under the command of Senior Deputy Inspector Lokendra Bahadur Chand from the area police office in Hasulia, have been deployed to assist in the situation.
The heavy rain has also led to severe flooding in the area. In Old Manikapur settlement of Kailari Village-5, the increased flow of the Kataini River has inundated 24 households. Out of the 126 homes in the settlement, 19 households, comprising 116 people, have been forced to take refuge on the upper floors of their houses or with relatives.
Additionally, 10 people from 5 households have been relocated to the Ward No. 5 office for safety. The authorities reported that the water level is gradually receding. Among those moved to safety are 40-year-old Asidevi Chaudhary, 50-year-old Samali Chaudhary, 55-year-old Sitaldevi Chaudhary, 68-year-old Santaram Chaudhary, and 70-year-old Tikaram Chaudhary.
Several others, including the elderly and children, have also been relocated. Widespread flooding has impacted more than 100 houses across Kailali. On Wednesday, homes in Kailari Rural Municipality, Bhajani Municipality, Gauriganga Municipality, Ghodaghodi Municipality, and other areas experienced severe flooding.
In Kailari Rural Municipality alone, 72 houses were submerged, with 36 houses in Old Manikapur, 25 in Janakpur and Basanta, and 11 in Bhagaha facing the worst impact. According to Bhuvan Bakharia, the disaster focal person for Kailari Municipality, dozens of homes in Mahadeva, Bhagwanpur, and Shankarpur villages in Gauriganga Municipality, along with Seukalia and Rattipur areas of Ghodaghodi Municipality, have also been affected by the floodwaters. Efforts are ongoing to mitigate the situation, and authorities are closely monitoring water levels as the rain continues.
