Dhangadhi — Residents of Belauri Municipality in Kanchanpur staged a peaceful protest at the municipal office, expressing frustration over delays in the construction of the Belauri Customs Road.

The protest, which began on Wednesday, was organized by the Road Struggle Committee. Coordinator Keshavraj Joshi highlighted that despite the completion of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a 4 km stretch of road from Belauri Bazar to the Nepal-India border, the municipality has shown little interest in commencing construction.

The committee resorted to peaceful protests after their attempts to draw the municipality's attention through memorandums were ignored. The struggle committee previously submitted a memorandum signed by 196 people on Magh 26 and another with 442 signatures on Baishak 26.

The DPR for the Customs Road was prepared in 2078 BS. Mayor Choudhary assured that a memorandum has been submitted to the provincial government and pledged full municipal support for the road's construction.

The residents' peaceful protest continues, with hopes that the municipality will take prompt action to address the road construction delays.
