Achham Police Initiative: Stickers with Police Contact Numbers Affixed to 4000 Houses

Achham: The Kamalbazar Area Police Office in Achham has initiated a proactive approach to enhance community safety by affixing stickers with police contact numbers on the houses of local residents. The move aims to facilitate easy reporting of crimes within the village to the police. Stickers have been placed on the doorsteps of 3,893 households in Kamalbazar Municipality, urging residents to promptly inform the police about criminal activities, natural disasters, and matters related to peace and security.

Chief Inspector Birendra Johari of the Kamalbazar District Police Office explained that the initiative involved placing stickers with police contact details on houses across all 10 wards of Kamalbazar Municipality. Despite the slogan "the police is my friend," there has been a limited flow of information from the village to the police. Inspector Johari noted, "When the police visited the village, people often wondered about the purpose of their visit. We aim to instill the understanding that the police are national servants entrusted with the responsibility of safeguarding the community's well-being."

He acknowledged that many incidents in the village, including drunken fights, violence against women, and other crimes, often go unreported to the police. By affixing stickers with phone numbers, the police hope to encourage locals to share information, and initial feedback from the community has been positive.

Inspector Johari, known for introducing innovative approaches during his tenure as head of the traffic police in Dhangadhi, previously visited schools to raise awareness about traffic rules among students. His efforts included making it mandatory for first-time traffic rule violators in Dhangadhi, outside the Kathmandu Valley, to attend a traffic rules awareness class. Approximately 2000 individuals who violated traffic rules participated in these educational sessions. The Kamalbazar police's recent campaign to place stickers on houses commenced on the 18th of Poush.
