CIAA Files Corruption Case Against Principal and Others for Illegal Soil Sale in Kanchanpur
Kanchanpur: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has taken legal action against four individuals, including the principal, in connection with a corruption case involving the illegal sale of soil belonging to Baijnath Multilingual Basic School in Laljhadi Rural Municipality-4, Kanchanpur.
The CIAA has filed a corruption case against Lakshman Rana, the former Chairman of the School Management Committee, Surendra Bahadur Bohara, the Principal, Rajendra Bahadur Bhatta, the Manager of New Bhagwati Brick Industry, and Dhan Bahadur Bista, the Proprietor of Siddha Vaijnath. These individuals are accused of engaging in corrupt practices by unlawfully excavating soil from the school premises and selling it to local brick industries.
During the fiscal years 2076/077 BS and 2077/078 BS, the defendants allegedly extracted soil, leveled the land, and constructed a pond. The CIAA's investigation revealed that seven lakh twenty-nine thousand units of soil were excavated. According to Section 8 of the Economic Act of the then Provincial Government of 2076 BS and Section 8 of the Far West Province Economic Act of 2077 BS, the perpetrators were liable for taxes specified in Schedule-6. They are accused of misappropriating government funds amounting to five hundred and 14.50 rupees. As a result, the Authority has filed a charge sheet against them, seeking appropriate punishment, which was presented today in the Special Court in Kathmandu, as stated in the official announcement by the CIAA.
