Kanchanpur: The Belauri customs post in the southern region of Kanchanpur has become a subject of contention, with local officials urging for its operation and expansion. Belauri Municipality submitted a memorandum to Foreign Minister NP Saud, who was visiting the area on Monday, to appeal for an extension of the customs border.

Poti lal Choudhary, the Chief of Belauri Municipality, cited issues with the Indian Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) obstructing the extension of electricity in Belauri municipality-8, Hulaki road in Pachui, and the demand for road and electricity. The memorandum also raised concerns regarding the closure of the Belauri Chhoti Customs for a year, following its inclusion under the jurisdiction of Kailali Customs, which has since locked the office since Baisakh 2079 BS.

Although Belauri is a relatively small customs point, the lack of India's inclusion in Khajuria has resulted in transit complications. The demand for an expansion of the customs border aims to alleviate this issue. The situation is ongoing, and further developments are expected to emerge as officials continue to assess the situation.
