Dhangadhi: Elections are being held today for the third time for the election of a Speaker in Far-West Province. Earlier, the Speaker of the House could not be elected as both the candidates could get a majority in the elections held on January 12 and 14. Bhim Bhandari of the Maoist Center and Man Bahadur Rawal of the Nepali Congress are candidates from the alliance.

Bhandari could not garner a majority in the elections held on January 12, as one MP of Nagrik Unmukti Party and UML were absent while one vote was invalid. The Nagrik Unmukti Party appeared to be neutral in the elections held on January 14. The 53-member Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly will be re-elected today.

The Chairman of Nagrik Unmukti Party, Ranjita Chaudhary Shrestha, has given instructions to support the ruling party for the election of the Speaker of Far-West Province. Shrestha, who reached Dhangadhi on Monday, met the members of the Provincial Assembly and instructed them to support the candidate of the ruling coalition in the election for the Speaker.
