Social media now being used to traffic women and children

The use of mobile phones and social media has been increasing in the recent times for trafficking women and children from Sudurpashchim. They are usually trafficked to India and from India they’re trafficked to other nations.

Presenting the annual report for the year 2019 on Wednesday, Maiti Nepal Kanchanpur of Bhimdutta Municipality said that the use of social media as means of communication to traffic women and children has increased by 80% in the recent times as social media is seen as an easy medium for brokers to carry out communications.

"This year we rescued 239 women and children that were trafficked or were likely to get trafficked, we also rescued women that were sent to Indian Brothels. ” said Maheshwari Bhatt, coordinator of Maiti Nepal Kanchanpur.
