Committee urges Dr. Govinda KC to withdraw hunger strike over university-related demands

Dhangadhi: The Shaheed Dasharath Chand Health Sciences University Sangharsh Committee has urged medical education reform activist Dr. Govinda KC to withdraw his ongoing satyagraha (hunger strike).

A team led by committee coordinator Lokraj Pandey met Kailali Chief District Officer Hiralal Regmi on Friday and called for initiative to end the hunger strike, stating that it could negatively affect the operation and development process of the university.

The committee has requested Dr. KC to remove demands related to Shaheed Dasharath Chand Health Sciences University and continue his protest based on other issues if he chooses to proceed with the hunger strike. It also appealed to avoid activities that could hinder the university’s establishment process while it is underway.

Coordinator Pandey stated that people of the Far West have long struggled for the establishment of the university and that creating controversy at a time when implementation is gaining momentum would not be appropriate. He added that while the committee does not disagree with Dr. KC’s other demands, it believes issues related to the university should be reconsidered.

Dr. Govinda KC began his 24th satyagraha in Dhangadhi, Kailali on Thursday, putting forward various demands related to reforms in medical education and the health sector. His demands include reviewing provisions related to Shaheed Dasharath Chand University of Health Sciences and canceling appointments in the Medical Education Commission that have led to conflicts of interest.
