Umesh Shrestha appointed Chairman of Press Council
Kathmandu: The government has appointed journalist Umesh Shrestha as the Chairman of the Press Council. A Cabinet meeting made the decision, appointing Shrestha to the vacant post on the recommendation of the Ministry of Information and Communications.
Earlier, senior advocate Kumar Sharma Acharya was serving as the Chairman of the Council. Following the issuance of an ordinance by the government, all office bearers, including him, were relieved of their positions.
Shrestha was recently working as the editor of NepalFacts. He holds a master’s degree in journalism and mass communication from Tribhuvan University and has been active in recent years as a fact-checker and trainer on fake news.
An expert in media policy, Shrestha has been providing training to journalists on digital research, data journalism and the use of artificial intelligence as the chief trainer of the CMR Nepal Journalism Academy.
