Indian driver arrested at midnight after Dhangadhi hit-and-run incident; police officers deployed for search

Dhangadhi: Police have arrested an Indian citizen who fled with his vehicle after hitting a motorcycle in Dhangadhi.

On Sunday night, at around 9:45 pm, an Indian vehicle (UP 65 EX 0100) hit a motorcycle (SE 4 PA 952) at Boradandi Chowk in Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City-3. The driver fled from the scene after the collision.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Yogendra Timilsina, spokesperson of the District Police Office Kailali, 42-year-old Ashwani Kumar Singh, whose permanent residence is in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India, was arrested at 1:30 am from Lalpur, Godavari Municipality-6. After the collision, Singh was found hiding with his vehicle at his in-laws' house in Lalpur.

According to the police, Kailali Chief Superintendent of Police Narendra Chand and Deputy Superintendent of Police Yogendra Timilsina were personally deployed to search for the driver after the incident. The arrested Singh has been taken into custody and further investigation is underway, the police said.

Padam Chand, 48, a resident of Sigas Rural Municipality in Baitadi district, who was riding behind a motorcycle after being hit by a vehicle, died during treatment.
