Grenade explosion during firing exercise kills Nepali Army officer

Dhangadhi: A Nepali Army officer has died and a lieutenant has been injured in a grenade explosion in Kailali.

Nepali Army officer Himal Bikram Bista died in a grenade explosion during a firing exercise conducted in the Jalpa Community Forest area of Mohanyal Rural Municipality-7, Kailali, according to DSP Yogendra Timilsina, spokesperson of the District Police Office, Kailali.

According to him, Bista, who was seriously injured in the explosion, died at around 12 noon during treatment at Lal Ratna Hospital in Lamki. Bista’s right palm and various parts of his body were injured in the explosion.

Lieutenant Himraj Joshi, who was nearby, was also injured in the same incident. His condition is reported to be normal, and he has been airlifted to Kathmandu via a Nepali Army helicopter for further treatment, DSP Timilsina said.

The incident occurred at 9:17 am on Thursday when a team deployed from the Far Western Training School, Gorange Barracks, was engaged in a firing practice drill.
