Dhangadhi: The CPN (UML) Sudurpaschim Province Committee has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the provincial government’s budget for the fiscal year 2083/84 and warned that it will withdraw from the government if necessary amendments are not made.

The 11th plenary meeting of the province committee concluded that the budget was not prepared in accordance with the consensus of the coalition government or its common policies and programs, and has called for improvements. In a statement issued by the party’s provincial deputy secretary and head of the publicity and publication department, Bhagarathi Bista, the budget was described as having been advanced unilaterally.

The statement noted that objections have been raised over budget allocations made against the agreement of the coalition government, and the parliamentary party has been directed to take necessary steps. It further stated that the coalition government will not be able to continue if amendments are not introduced.

The meeting, held at the provincial office in Dhangadhi, was chaired by province president Krishna Prasad Jaishi and hosted by party central member and Sudurpaschim in-charge Damodar Bhandari. It reviewed district-level activities and discussed current political issues.

The UML has also demanded additional budget and programs, stating that the far-western, underprivileged, and remote areas have not been given adequate priority in the federal budget.

The meeting expressed disagreement with the Prime Minister’s statement in the House of Representatives and demanded that it be removed from the record. It also urged the government to send a diplomatic note protesting the incident involving the Indian Border Security Force demolishing a border pillar in Susta, Nawalparasi.

Similarly, expressing concern over the unavailability of fertilizer on time, the party has urged the government to ensure easy access for farmers. The meeting also criticized statements made by some ministers and described their behavior toward officials of the Constitutional Commission as objectionable.

The meeting also extended thanks to the central leadership, including party chairman KP Sharma Oli, for their participation in the recent election review and party reorganization program held in Dhangadhi.
