Punarbas 33/11 kV substation comes into operation, benefiting 18,000 customers

Kanchanpur: The Nepal Electricity Authority has completed the construction of a 33/11 kV, 6/8 MVA capacity rehabilitation substation in the Punarbas Municipality area of Kanchanpur and brought it into operation, directly benefiting around 18,000 customers.

According to NEA Acting Executive Director Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha, although a contract agreement had previously been signed for the construction of the substation, it was later canceled after the concerned contractor failed to complete the required electromechanical work, carrying out only the civil works.

Shrestha stated that following widespread complaints from local consumers regarding prolonged low voltage and power supply issues in the area, instructions were issued to make immediate alternative arrangements and expedite the completion of the substation. In line with this directive, the Belauri Distribution Center completed the remaining construction and installation work swiftly by utilizing necessary equipment, including 6/8 MVA capacity transformers available in various NEA offices, and brought the substation into operation.

“Once the substation under the Belauri Distribution Center comes into operation, it will be easier to provide reliable electricity supply to customers in the area,” Shrestha said. The project was completed under the initiative of the Nepal Electricity Authority’s Far West Provincial Office.

With the substation now operational, approximately 18,000 customers under the Belauri Distribution Center will directly benefit. “This will bring a significant improvement in the quality of electricity supply and facilitate management of increasing electricity demand in the future,” Shrestha added.

The Authority has expressed confidence that the operation of the substation will make the electricity supply system in the resettlement area more stable, reliable, and of higher quality.
