39 Bags of bamboo seized in Darchula while being smuggled to India, four arrested
Dhangadhi: Police have seized a large quantity of bamboo being illegally exported from Nepal to India in Darchula.
Based on special information, 39 bags of bamboo were seized from the Mahakali River bank area in Kaligad, Duhu Rural Municipality-3.
Police arrested four locals while they were transporting the bamboo illegally. Those arrested are Pawan Singh Karki, 41, Ramesh Singh Karki, 42, Gorkha Singh Karki, 41, and Shailendra Singh Karki, 32, of Duhu Rural Municipality-4.
According to police, the seized bamboo weighs 1,368 kilograms and is estimated to be worth around Rs 342,000. The confiscated illegal forest produce has been handed over to the Api-Nampa Conservation Area, Darchula after completing necessary procedures. Police said that further investigation into the incident is underway.
