Dhangadhi: The contract for the repair and upgrading of the 42-kilometer road section from Attariya to Sahajpur in Kailali under the Mahakali Highway has been cancelled. The concerned authority terminated the contract after the project, which was initially supposed to be completed within one year, remained unfinished even five years after it was agreed upon on 22 Baisakh 2078.

The Federal Road Supervision and Monitoring Office and the Road Division Office Mahendranagar, Kanchanpur under the Department of Roads stated that the contract with Kathmandu-based Nagarjuna Construction Pvt. Ltd. was cancelled due to extreme delays in construction work.

According to the office, despite repeated written and verbal requests to the contractor to complete the work, no progress was made. An explanation was also sought through a notice published in the Gorkhapatra daily on 23 Chaitra 2082. However, as no response was received, the contract was ultimately cancelled.

The notice states that the termination was made on 18 Jestha 2083 in accordance with Sub-sections (2) and (7) of Section 59 of the Public Procurement Act, 2063, and GCC Clauses 72 and 72.3(b) of the contract agreement.

The office has further stated that, following the cancellation, completed work will be evaluated as per the provisions of the Public Procurement Act and the agreement, and any compensation or remaining amount will be recovered as government dues.

In addition, construction entrepreneurs have been instructed to contact the office for financial settlement within 15 days from the date of publication of the notice.
