Dhangadhi: A no-confidence motion has been filed against Kamal Bahadur Shah, Chief Minister of Sudurpaschim Province and leader of the Nepali Congress parliamentary party. Provincial assembly members from his own party, who had been demanding Shah’s resignation for a long time, submitted the motion within the parliamentary party.

According to Congress Sudurpaschim Province Assembly member Diwan Singh Bista, the motion has been filed with the signatures of nine out of 18 Congress MPs representing the provincial assembly. It is stated that Congress MP Prakash Bahadur Deuba did not take part in the signing process as he has been outside Nepal for a long time.

A meeting was held under the chairmanship of senior member Man Bahadur Rawal to register the no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Shah. The motion bears the signatures of Diwan Singh Bista, Man Bahadur Rawal, Chief Whip Geeta Chaudhary, and provincial assembly members Tulsi Devkota, Dammari Mahara, Padam Bahadur Shahi, Bel Bahadur Rana Magar, Lalita Sunar, and Junakumari Dani.

The MPs had begun collecting signatures against Shah from Jestha 20. The motion was formally registered after the required number of support was secured.

The filing of the no-confidence motion has further increased the likelihood of a change in the provincial government leadership, as there is a tradition within the Nepali Congress that the leader of the parliamentary party also becomes the Chief Minister.
