NC Lawmakers press CM Shah to resign as internal power struggle intensifies in Sudurpaschim
Dhangadhi: Nepali Congress Provincial Assembly member Diwan Singh Bista has urged Sudurpaschim Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah to resign.
Meeting Chief Minister Shah at his official residence on Friday morning, Bista suggested that he step down from both the post of parliamentary party leader and Chief Minister to pave the way for new leadership. In response, Chief Minister Shah is said to have challenged him to remove him through a majority decision if there is dissatisfaction.
There are 18 Nepali Congress MPs in the 53-member Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly. The support of 10 MPs is required to remove Shah from the position of party leader. According to Bista, eight MPs have already expressed support for his removal, while discussions are ongoing with the remaining two.
During the meeting, Bista urged Shah to give a positive message by resigning, while the Chief Minister reiterated that he is ready to step down if a majority within the party decides against him.
Earlier internal disputes and attempts to change leadership have further intensified the power struggle within the Sudurpaschim Nepali Congress.
