MPs urge government not to burden citizens with taxes in House of Representatives

Kathmandu: During today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Members of Parliament drew the government’s attention to avoiding the imposition of additional tax burdens on the public. Speaking during the zero hour, MPs raised a wide range of issues, including taxation, infrastructure, electricity, airports, playgrounds, and foreign employment.

MP Sulabh Kharel emphasized the need to ensure that tax payment systems are made convenient for citizens. MP Sushil Khadka called for promoting waste management and demanded the abolition of scrap tax, suggesting that compost and plastic from decomposed waste could be reused as coal for industries.

MP Sushant Vaidik pointed out delays in the construction of a road in Pyuthan and urged that the work be expedited. He also drew the government’s attention to the need for constructing lightning-resistant towers.

MP Sushma Swarnakar urged that electricity supply should not be disrupted, stating that it is a fundamental right of citizens. MP Suhang Nembang raised concerns about recurring road collapses in Ilam during the rainy season and called for immediate improvements, along with the timely completion of unfinished bridges in the district.

MP Som Sharma demanded a factual investigation into the shooting incident that occurred on Bhadra 23 and called for action against those responsible. MP Smriti Chaudhary stressed the need for a long-term policy to curb the migration of youth abroad.

MP Harinadevi Kami highlighted the issue of the Rangun Khola in Dadeldhura eroding cultivable land and demanded the construction of embankments. MP Hari Prasad Bhusal emphasized the implementation of a proportional advertising policy to strengthen a free press.

MP Kshitij Thebe stated that the long-held public aspiration for regular flights at the blacktopped Suketar Airport in Taplejung remains unfulfilled. He also raised concerns about the poor condition of roads and bridges in the district.

MP Gyanu Poudel called for immediate operation of the Kalikot airport, stating that despite test operations being completed, it has not yet come into service. He noted that air connectivity is essential due to the poor condition of roads in Kalikot.

MP Gyanendra Singh Mahata demanded the construction of a modern cricket playground in Kanchanpur. MP Harimohan Bhandari raised concerns about the difficulties in repatriating the bodies of Nepali workers who die abroad and urged the Ministry of Labor to take necessary initiative.
