Sudurpaschim Chief Minister Shah says provincial government supports overall development of media sector

Attariya (Kailali): Chief Minister of Sudurpaschim Province, Kamal Bahadur Shah, has said that the provincial government is in favor of the overall development of the media sector.

Speaking at a discussion program organized by the Sudurpaschim Province Committee of the Federation of Nepali Journalists in Dhangadhi today, as part of the pressure campaign announced by the Central Committee of the Federation of Nepali Journalists against the federal government’s circular to provide government advertisements only to government media, Chief Minister Shah said the government should create an environment that supports the journalism sector and that the provincial government is committed to this.

Chief Minister Shah informed that the Mass Media Bill has been tabled in the Sudurpaschim Province Assembly and will be passed after discussion to ensure that the entire media sector benefits and supports its overall development. He also suggested that the government should establish certain standards, noting that the federal government’s circular has created problems, particularly for private sector media.

He further urged the federal government to set clear standards for both private and government media and move forward accordingly. Shah said that the government should create an environment that supports the livelihood of those involved in the media sector along with the dissemination of information.

During the discussion, Federation of Nepali Journalists Sudurpaschim Province President Bharat Bahadur Shah briefed Chief Minister Shah on the overall situation of the media sector. He said that attention should be given at the provincial level, stating that private media is increasingly becoming monopolized.
