Kanchanpur: A road safety program has been launched to reduce road accidents along the Attariya–Gaddachauki section of the East-West Mahendra Highway in Kanchanpur. The initiative has been implemented by the Road Division Office, Mahendranagar.

Under the program, various structural and visual improvements are being carried out with a focus on traffic management and passenger safety. Work is in progress to install traffic signboards, place delineator posts, and carry out road painting at high-risk and busy locations along the road.

According to Engineer Harish Prasad Joshi, Information Officer at the Road Division Office, the program is being implemented through a contract process. “A contract agreement has been signed with Infrastructure Construction Services Pvt. Ltd. for Rs. 3,112,000,” he said. “As per the agreement, 55 traffic signboards will be installed, 1,219 delineator posts will be placed, and road painting will be carried out as required.” He added that delineator posts and road markings will be particularly useful in clearly guiding drivers at night and during adverse weather conditions.

Similarly, traffic signboards are expected to help reduce accident risks by providing timely information to drivers.

The primary objective of the program is to control high-speed accidents, ensure safer vehicle operation, and protect the lives of passengers and pedestrians.

It is expected that the initiative will enhance awareness of traffic rules among road users and promote disciplined driving. The program is considered especially relevant in light of the increasing number of accidents on various sections of the East-West Highway in recent years, with infrastructure improvements expected to play a significant role in reducing accidents over the long term.
