Kathmandu: Minister for Education, Science and Technology Sasmit Pokharel has urged journalists to continue to be vigilant and contribute to the issue of education reforms.

While discussing with a delegation of the Education Journalists’ Group at his office in Singha Durbar today, he made the above remarks, seeking suggestions and support as the government has initiated positive efforts for reforms by resolving problems in the education sector.

“Journalists writing in the education sector should continuously bring out the good/bad issues seen. Sometimes we can go astray. We should be vigilant at such times. We should also correct ourselves where we go astray,” said Minister Pokharel. He also expressed his commitment to conduct the necessary study on the ‘Communication Strategy for Education, 2065’ as requested by the Education Journalists’ Group, review it and take initiatives for its implementation.

Group chair Nirjala Kakshapati handed over various suggestions to Minister Pokharel, including bringing the long-pending School Education Bill to the budget session with amendments, implementing the pending issues of the High-Level National Education Commission, 2076, increasing investment in education, implementing a communication strategy for education, and organizing study and research fellowships in education journalism.

The meeting was attended by former group chairmen Prakash Silwal, Sudarshan Sigdel, and Tula Adhikari.
