Goods worth over Rs 2.1 million seized in Baitadi for customs evasion
Baitadi: Illegal goods worth over Rs 2.1 million have been seized in Baitadi. The Armed Police Force confiscated a Bolero pickup truck and a tractor along with the goods from Pancheshwor Rural Municipality-4, Haldubinayak.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Jang Bahadur Kunwar of the Armed Police Force No. 51 Gulma Headquarters, Baitadi, the seizure was carried out at around 3:00 am today. The goods had been brought from India by evading customs. The seized items include 23 quintals of sugar, five quintals of sugar candy, and other groceries.
The vehicles involved include a Bolero pickup truck with registration number Suppra 01 001 Cha 2789 and a tractor with registration number Suppra 01 002 Ta 5090. DSP Kunwar stated that the operation was conducted based on secret information by a mobile team led by Armed Police Inspector Ramesh Prasad Pandey. “We had received information that customs-evading goods were being imported for a few days. The deployed team found the goods during investigation,” he said.
The Armed Police Force reported that individuals involved in the smuggling fled upon seeing the police team. The seized goods along with the vehicles have been handed over to the Mahakali Customs Office, Jhulaghat, for necessary action.
