Dhangadhi: The Mahendra Highway at Amkhaiya in Ghodaghodi Municipality-8, Kailali, has been blocked by locals since 10 am.

The protest was led by the family of Roshan Chaudhary, who died in a scooter accident on the night of Chaitra 22, citing the lack of compensation.

According to the District Police Office, Kailali, the scooter (Sudurpaschim Province 01-012 Pa 5929), traveling from west to east, crashed on the East-West Highway at Gauriganga Bridge in Mangalpur, Gauriganga Municipality-1, on Sunday night. Chaudhary sustained serious injuries in the accident and later died during treatment at Seti Provincial Hospital, Dhangadhi.

Locals have demanded proper compensation for the victim’s family and have enforced a complete shutdown of the highway, leading to significant traffic congestion. Drivers stranded at the site reported that even pedestrians have not been allowed to pass.

As a result of the sudden blockade, vehicles en route to their destinations have been halted. Kailali police stated that efforts are underway to reopen the highway. Police spokesperson DSP Yogendra Timilsina said discussions are ongoing with the victim’s family to resolve the situation and resume traffic.

He added that the highway is expected to be operational soon.
