Shaheed Dasharath Chand health sciences university assembly to be held in Geta for the first time, MBBS teaching assurance sought

Dhangadhi: The assembly of Shaheed Dasharath Chand Health Sciences University is scheduled to be held on the university premises in Geta on Chaitra 10. Previously conducted twice in the federal capital, this marks the first time the assembly will take place at the university itself. Preparations are underway to pass the necessary regulations and procedures for the university’s operation during the meeting.

The assembly will be chaired by Education Minister and University Vice-Chancellor Sasmit Pokharel. However, the university coordination committee has expressed concerns that while preparations are being made to operate medical education, including MBBS, from the upcoming academic session, no clear assurance has yet been provided.

The coordination committee, actively involved in the university establishment campaign, has decided to take initiatives to ensure the operation of MBBS and other programs. In a meeting held on Sunday, the committee resolved to raise local issues during the assembly on Chaitra 10, advocate for the construction of a park with a statue of Martyr Dasharath Chand on the university premises, and take other related actions.

According to committee coordinator Lokraj Pandey (Ago), plans have been made to effectively present the concerns of locals and stakeholders. Discussions focused on cooperation and coordination for university operations, with initiatives launched to oversee the construction of the proposed park. Preparations are also being made to secure the necessary budget to commence teaching in the upcoming academic session.

Coordinator Pandey added that efforts will be made to ensure the allocation of the proposed Rs 2.58 billion for university operations. Following the passage of the University Act 2082, the vice-chancellor, registrar, and other office bearers have been appointed.

The university administration aims to start teaching in four subjects in the upcoming academic session. In accordance with legal provisions, at least 300-bed hospitals must have been operational for three years, and preparations are being made to affiliate Seti, Mahakali, and Tikapur Provincial Hospitals.

Out of 77 teaching positions announced for educational programs, 304 applications have been received. The selection process is scheduled to begin in the month of Baisakh.
