Kathmandu: The Supreme Court has ordered the government to submit the reasons behind the arrest of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

A single bench of Justice Meghraj Pokharel issued a show cause order in this regard. The petition was filed by Oli’s wife, Radhika Shakya, claiming that her husband was being held in illegal detention and seeking custodial review.

The case relates to Oli’s actions as Prime Minister during the Genji Movement on Bhadra 23 and 24, which have come under scrutiny.

An inquiry commission formed by the government to investigate the incident had recommended an investigation into Oli, along with the then Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.

Acting on the recommendation, both Oli and Lekhak were arrested on Saturday morning.
