Senior MP Arjun Singh KC stresses parliament’s role in fulfilling public aspirations

Kathmandu: Senior House of Representatives member Arjun Singh KC has emphasized that the parliament and the government must address the unlimited aspirations and expectations expressed by the people during elections.

KC took the oath of office and secrecy from President Ram Chandra Poudel today. Speaking after assuming office at the Federal Parliament Secretariat in Singha Durbar, he stated that it is the responsibility of all to work inclusively, considering the opposition, in the overall interest of the country.

“The common challenges we face are poverty, disease, hunger, and misgovernance, and the parliament must play an effective role in addressing them. Since 2015 BS, the people have entrusted us with a broad mandate, and it is the duty of the parliament and the government to honor it,” he said. KC added, “I will perform the duties of the Speaker impartially and transparently. Every decision in the chair will be guided by the country’s constitution, parliamentary regulations, and established practices. I will safeguard the privileges of every MP.”

The senior member has assumed the responsibility of Speaker at a time when preparations are underway to form a new government and convene a session of Parliament following the House of Representatives elections held on Falgun 21.
