Five MPs from Sudurpaschim to take oath in mother tongue, including Doteli and Tharu languages
Dhangadhi: Members of Parliament elected in the House of Representatives elections held on 21 Falgun are scheduled to take the oath of office and secrecy on 2 Chaitra. Arjun Narsingh KC of the Nepali Congress, the senior-most member of the 275-member House of Representatives, will administer the oath to other MPs after taking it from the President.
This time, 24 MPs have expressed their intention to take the oath in their mother tongue instead of Nepali, including five from Sudurpaschim Province. Among them, Deepak Bohara, Aakriti Awasthi, and Harina Kami have chosen to take the oath in Doteli. All three are residents of Dadeldhura, while Bohara was elected from Kanchanpur-2.
Similarly, Geeta Chaudhary is set to take the oath in Tharu, while Kriparam Rana will take it in Ranatharu. Both were elected as MPs from Kanchanpur through the proportional representation system.
According to the Oath Act 2079, MPs are allowed to take the oath in their mother tongue. Based on this provision, MPs have registered their preferred languages with the Parliament Secretariat.
