Youth arrested for spreading false TikTok rumor about Balen Shah being shot

Kathmandu: A 23-year-old man has been arrested in Kathmandu for allegedly spreading false and misleading information on TikTok claiming that Balen Shah was shot in Jhapa.

The District Police Range, Kathmandu, has taken Prakash Bhatta, a resident of Shuklaphanta Municipality-7 in Kanchanpur who is currently residing in Kathmandu, into custody. Police stated that Bhatta disseminated a misleading post about an attack on TikTok, thereby spreading a negative message in society and committing an offense against public peace.

He was apprehended by a police team from Dabli Chowk in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-5 on the afternoon of February 15.

According to Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, spokesperson for the District Police Range, Kathmandu, and Superintendent of Police, Bhatta’s remand has been extended by five days by the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, to facilitate further investigation.
