Baitadi: A health team has conducted medical check-ups in Maharagaun, Purchaundi Municipality-10, following the deaths of two children from the same family due to fever.

Purchaundi Municipality Health Branch Chief Binod Kumar Kunwar said a team including a doctor visited the village on Saturday after 13-year-old Binod Mahara and 10-year-old Bikash Mahara passed away from fever. About 70 residents experiencing fever were examined and provided with medication. Initial assessments indicate an outbreak of seasonal viral fever in the village.

Drinking water samples have been collected for testing, and throat swabs from some residents have been taken to be sent to the Public Health Laboratory in Dhangadhi for analysis, Kunwar added. Although no major complications have been reported among patients, caution has been advised. A team of local health workers with medicines remains in the village.

Maharagaun is in mourning after the deaths of the two children, who were the only sons of Kailash Mahara and Manmati Mahara. The siblings died within six days of each other, with Binod passing on Falgun 11 and Bikash on Saturday morning. Binod was a seventh-grade student, while Bikash was in fifth grade, according to ward member Bishnu Dutta Awasthi.
