House of Representatives polls in Sudurpaschim: women make up just 8.57 percent of candidates

Dhangadhi: A total of 210 candidates have filed their candidacies from Sudurpaschim Province for the House of Representatives elections scheduled for Falgun 21. Among them, 18 are women and 192 are men, contesting across 16 constituencies in the province. As a result, women account for only 8.57 percent of the total candidates.

The highest number of candidates—19 each—have registered their candidacies from Kailali Constituency No. 1 and Kanchanpur Constituencies No. 1 and 2. In contrast, Bajhang has the lowest number of candidates, with only seven filing nominations.

According to the Sudurpaschim Provincial Election Office, 16 candidates have registered from Kailali Constituency No. 2, 11 from Kailali Constituency No. 3, 16 from Kailali Constituency No. 4, and 16 from Kailali Constituency No. 5. Similarly, 17 candidates have filed their nominations from Kanchanpur Constituency No. 3, eight from Achham Constituency No. 1, and nine from Achham Constituency No. 2.

In other districts, nine candidates have registered from Doti, eight from Bajura, 12 from Baitadi, 11 from Darchula, and 13 from Dadeldhura.
