Dhangadhi: Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City has launched a skill and employment fair aimed at promoting self-employment among youth through skill-based training. The fair, which began on Monday, is hosting around 600 trainees selected from 83 of the 88 local levels of Sudurpaschim Province and is scheduled to continue for 40 days.

Training is being provided in 22 sub-categories across six main sectors, including automobiles, construction, hospitality and reception, electrical and mechanical work, information technology and educational services, and art, craft, and design. The fair was formally inaugurated during a special program on Monday.

At the opening ceremony, Minister for Labor, Employment and Social Security Rajendra Singh Bhandari highlighted the growing concern over youth feeling unable to live and work in the country. He described the Genji movement as an energetic response to this stagnation and cautioned that the country may face further challenges if the underlying issues are not addressed.

Minister Bhandari emphasized the need to change societal attitudes toward labor, criticizing the perception of labor as shameful and noting the psychological and geographical divide between the Far West and the central region. He stressed that development must be visible and tangible, not limited to rhetoric.

Mayor Gopal Hamal was praised for his initiatives in Dhangadhi’s development. He stated that, unlike past training programs that incurred significant expenses without tangible results, the city is now implementing result-oriented practices with a focus on ensuring market access for trained youth.

The inaugural session was attended by chiefs, deputy chiefs, chairpersons, and vice-chairpersons from 55 local levels of the Far West. They encouraged youth to acquire skills through the fair and apply them within the country to foster employment and development.
