Gagan Thapa–led congress submits special general convention details to election commission
Kathmandu: Leaders of the Nepali Congress led by President Gagan Thapa have reached the Election Commission to update records of the party’s newly formed working committee. Following a meeting of the new working committee held on Thursday, office bearers led by President Thapa, along with Vice President Bishwa Prakash Sharma, visited the commission.
The Nepali Congress under Thapa’s leadership had organized a special general convention in Kathmandu from Poush 27 to 30. A team comprising party leaders and legal experts reached the Election Commission to submit documents and records related to the special general convention. A new working committee was formed under Thapa’s leadership through this convention.
However, the faction led by Sher Bahadur Deuba has not recognized the special general convention conducted under Thapa’s leadership. The Deuba faction has announced the expulsion of Thapa and Sharma, accusing them of acting against party discipline. On Wednesday, the Nepali Congress led by the Deuba faction also approached the Election Commission and informed it that the special general convention had not been held.
