Dhangadhi sub-metropolitan city expands access to health services for citizens

Dhangadhi: Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City in Kailali has been enhancing access to health services by providing free specialist care directly to citizens through various programs, including specialist ward health clinics.

Launched in Shrawan 2079 BS under the leadership of Mayor Gopal Hamal, the ward health clinic service specifically targets economically disadvantaged citizens in rural areas. From Shrawan to mid-Mangsir of the current fiscal year, 15,023 people have benefited from the clinics, including 11,194 women and 3,829 men, according to program source Krishna Bohara.

The clinics operate in collaboration with Geta Eye Hospital and Dhangadhi Netralaya, offering services from one general physician, one gynecologist, and one ophthalmologist. During this period, 9,310 people received consultations from general physicians, 1,580 women from gynecologists, and 4,133 from ophthalmologists. Additionally, 9,771 people accessed laboratory services, 1,773 sought ECG services, and 1,901 pregnant women received health services, including 722 ultrasounds. Senior citizens above 70 numbered 3,735 among those receiving care.

This initiative is conducted monthly across all 19 wards of the sub-metropolitan city. In the last fiscal year alone, 33,141 women and 11,310 men utilized the services.

Save Mother Campaign
Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City has also launched the ‘Save Mother’ campaign to support pregnant, laboring, and postpartum women. Initiated in Mangsir 2079/80, the campaign provides free ambulance services to women in rural areas. Health Branch Chief Yogesh Awasthi reported that 233 women benefited from free ambulance services from Shrawan to Mangsir of the current fiscal year, with four ambulances deployed for hospital transfers. Last fiscal year, 580 women benefited from this program.

“This campaign addresses the lack of transportation to hospitals in rural areas,” said Awasthi, emphasizing the city’s commitment to maternal and child health.
