98 Prisoners remain at large following Kanchanpur jail break
Kanchanpur: Out of the 357 prisoners who escaped from Kanchanpur Jail during the Genji group protest on the evening of Bhadra 24, 98 remain at large. Of the total escapees, 294 prisoners voluntarily returned to the jail, while 63 were apprehended by the police and sent back to custody.
Among those still absconding, the majority are serving sentences for drug-related offenses, with 32 prisoners falling into this category, according to Information Officer Jeevan Pant. Additionally, 20 prisoners, including an Indian national serving a sentence for rape, are still at large. Nine are accused of manslaughter, eight are accused of theft, and 29 are evading justice on various other charges.
Information Officer Pant stated that police have been requested to intensify the search for the absconding prisoners. Chief Superintendent of Police Khadka Bahadur Khatri of the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, confirmed that efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the fugitives through multiple means.
