Remuneration raised for community school teachers and staff in Shuklaphanta
Kanchanpur: Shuklaphanta Municipality has decided to increase the remuneration of teachers and employees working in community schools.
A meeting of the Municipal Education Committee approved additional payments for child development teachers, school employees and school assistants, with all decisions set to take effect from Poush 1, according to Tikendra Raj Bhatta, Chief of the Education, Youth and Sports Branch.
Based on the committee’s decision, recommendations will be made for the remuneration, allowances and management of teachers working under the Municipal Teaching and Learning Support Grant. Chief Bhatta said that facilities for teachers and school employees at various levels have been adjusted, prioritizing quality improvement and learning effectiveness.
A special grant of Rs 500 per month has been approved for mathematics and science teachers at the secondary level. Similarly, allowances for secondary-level principals will increase by Rs 700 and for basic-level principals by Rs 500.
To strengthen school administration, secondary schools will receive Rs 15,000 and basic-level schools Rs 10,000 as administrative expenses. Additional allowances include Rs 7,000 for child development teachers, Rs 19,000 for school assistants, Rs 9,000 for school assistants in another category, and Rs 17,000 for school support staff. Child development teachers with extra responsibilities will receive an additional Rs 2,000 per month.
The updated salary and allowance structure for municipal teaching-learning grant teachers will be Rs 23,000 for lower secondary teachers, Rs 26,000 for secondary teachers and Rs 27,000 for former higher secondary teachers. Salaries across all three levels will rise by Rs 1,000.
“This salary and allowance has been provided equally for 13 months,” said Chief Bhatta, adding that teachers will also receive an annual clothing allowance of Rs 10,000. Shuklaphanta Municipality currently has 88 municipal teachers, 65 child development center teachers, 13 school employees and 33 school assistants in community schools.
Approved posts include 73 at the primary level, 16 at lower secondary, eight at secondary and two at higher secondary. Relief quotas are 50 in primary, 25 in lower secondary, 16 in secondary and eight in higher secondary.
Since no school in the municipality currently operates a science faculty, the committee has decided to recommend Shree Krishna Secondary School in Shuklaphanta-10 for infrastructure development to run science programs for grades 11 and 12 from the next academic session.
The municipality has also made the ‘Phulbari Program’ mandatory for beautification in 28 community schools and 25 private schools. Education Officer Suresh Bhatta said that official letters will be sent to the respective schools.
Additionally, the committee has recommended allocating a budget for moral education and motivational classes, and requested Rs 2 million for school building maintenance and repair.
To ensure a safe school environment, directives will be issued to stop the consumption of drugs and alcohol on school premises. The municipal executive has also been recommended to enforce a ban on the sale of alcohol, tobacco and drug-related items within 200 meters of school areas.
Ramesh Bahadur Air, coordinator of the municipality’s social development committee, expressed confidence that these decisions will enhance the learning environment, strengthen school administration and support quality education.
A total of 14,543 students are enrolled in community schools within the municipality, from early childhood development to secondary level.
