Minister Kharel stresses making public broadcasting quality, reliable, and effective

Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel has highlighted the importance of making public broadcasting quality, reliable, and effective.

Speaking at the first anniversary of Public Service Broadcasting (PSB) Nepal and the inauguration of Public Service Broadcasting and 'NTV World' at Singha Durbar, Minister Kharel emphasized that PSB’s content should be impactful and meaningful.

He stated, “The slogan of PSB needs to be 'Justify.' It should reflect innovation and creativity in the content it presents. Easy access to PSB for the people should be ensured.” He also stressed the importance of sustainability and content diversity, noting that PSB was launched despite numerous challenges. According to him, PSB should provide content that reflects the nation’s identity and pride for Nepalis both at home and abroad.

Minister Kharel further observed that the mass media sector faces challenges globally and in Nepal. He urged PSB to utilize the mobile digital platform to increase radio and television audiences. “It is not possible to keep a television on the wall like yesterday. We must now adapt to changing technology and equipment. We must earn the trust of the people through all five channels of NTV, increase viewership and engagement, and remain competitive with the private sector,” he said.

He expressed confidence that the government would provide necessary support for the sustainability and professionalization of mass media, particularly in managing technology and human resources amid current challenges.
