300 bighas of Sudurpaschim University land encroached in Tikapur
Kanchanpur: A total of 300 bighas of land belonging to Sudurpaschim University has been encroached.
According to Vice Chancellor Hemraj Panta, out of the 380 bighas of land allocated to the university’s constituent campus, Tikapur Multiple Campus, only 80 bighas are currently in use. The Tikapur Development Committee had provided 380 bighas of land for the campus establishment in 2062 BS, but 300 bighas have been encroached upon by freed tenants and squatters.
Vice Chancellor Panta stated that the university has repeatedly requested the federal and provincial governments to reclaim the encroached land, but no action has been taken. Recently, the university’s executive council decided to demand the formation of a high-level investigation commission to recover the encroached property. Panta added that removing the encroachers has been challenging as they are reportedly protected by various political parties.
