Election commission rejects Lalbir Chaudhary’s claim, confirms Ranjita Shrestha as Civil Liberation Party chairperson
Dhangadhi: The Election Commission has recognized Ranjita Shrestha as the chairperson of the Civil Liberation Party, rejecting a claim by Lalbir Chaudhary to the position.
A faction of the party had appointed Lalbir Chaudhary as chairperson through a National Assembly meeting, replacing Ranjita Shrestha. Lalbir subsequently filed an application with the Election Commission seeking to update the party’s leadership records.
In its decision last night, the Commission ruled that the National Assembly meeting in question was not valid under the Political Parties Act and the Civil Liberation Party statute, and therefore upheld Ranjita’s leadership. Prior to the decision, the Commission had sought written clarification from both Lalbir and Ranjita, each of whom claimed the position.
The Commission stated that Ranjita was confirmed as chairperson based on the responses provided, along with relevant laws and the party statute. Election Commission Information Officer Durga Prasad Chalise confirmed that the decision has been verified.
