Bajura man dies after slipping on Karnali riverbank while fishing

Dhangadhi: Pusse Bhandari of Bajura has tragically died after slipping on the Karnali Riverbank while returning from a fishing trip.

According to Dev Bahadur Chaudhary, Information Officer at the District Police Office, Bajura, Bhandari was carrying a fishing net on his back and fish in his hand when he suddenly lost his footing and fell, sustaining fatal injuries.

Bhandari had managed to call his relatives for help, prompting a rescue attempt by eight villagers, including four men, a woman, and three children. However, by the time they reached the scene an hour later, around 5 PM, the 38-year-old was already deceased.

DSP Chaudhary stated that the body remains on the riverbed, and while a police rescue team and Bhandari’s relatives have been present at the scene since Sunday, high water levels have delayed the rescue operation. He assured that boats have been arranged, and the retrieval effort is expected to be completed soon.
